Volunteers are being sought to help out at the lunch clubs held at our Holy Cross Home in High Barnes, Sunderland.

The lunches are hosted in the former convent rooms at Holy Cross in Ettrick Grove every Wednesday and Friday between 11am and 2.00pm. They offer guests, particularly those who are older and isolated, the opportunity to come together to enjoy a two-course lunch and the company of others, as well as taking part in friendly conversation, fun quizzes and activities.

If you have a few hours to spare each week to help offer a warm welcome to lunch club guests, serve drinks and meals, or do some washing up, we would like to hear from you!

"There are usually around 20 or so guests who attend each session. Most attend Mass in the home's chapel then drop in for tea and a chat before their meal cooked by the kitchen staff. Afterwards they have a game of bingo and another cuppa," says St Cuthberts Care volunteer coordinator, Nicola Milne.

"We currently only have a small core of volunteers, so at holiday time it's becoming impossible to carry on with the club. I am looking for people who can commit regularly - even if it's just once a month," says Nicola.
