5p Bus Volunteers

St Cuthberts Care is launching an appeal for new recruits to help on our 5p Bus project as part of national Volunteer Week activities.

The pioneering clothes distribution service, which the charity has been operating for six years, visits impoverished communities around the North East selling donated clothing for just five pence per item at venues near family centres, benefits offices, shopping precincts and churches.

"We are looking for volunteers who can help sort the donated items at our depot at Holy Cross, Sunderland, as well as people who can go out and about to welcome and assist customers on the bus itself," says 5p Bus manager, Iris Boyd.

"Over 4,000 customers benefit from the project every month with donations provided by the public and it's very rewarding for our volunteers to know that they are helping to provide this real and affordable shopping experience for people with little or no money," adds Iris.

Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer for the 5p Bus should contact Iris on 0191 228 0111 or visit St Cuthberts Care's web page to see a range of volunteering opportunities with the charity.
