St Thomas More pupils donation

Pupils from St Thomas More Catholic School in Blaydon have handed over bags of groceries as a gift to help the homeless in Gateshead.

The school donated the food for St Cuthberts Care's Parish and Community Enablement project known as Joe's Place, which offers a choice of hot and cold food once a week to people who are homeless, have little or no money or are living with mental health issues.

Joe's Place has been open since May this year and is one of four drop in cafes in the diocese run by volunteers. It provides a warm and friendly atmosphere and serves over 50 lunches every Wednesday at St Joseph's RC Church, Walker Terrace.

"We are very grateful to St Thomas More School and everyone involved in donating food to Joe's Place," said St Cuthberts Care volunteer coordinator, Nicola Milne. "Our projects like this need all the support we can get, especially at this time of year."

Volunteers are particularly needed to help out on Fridays at a similar project in Newcastle. For more details of how you can help call Nicola on 0191 228 0111 or email nicola.milne@stcuthbertscare.org.uk
