Volunteer and guest chat at Words of Welcome

The opening of a new drop-in café in Stockton hasn't come a moment too soon for one visitor.

Anna lives locally, but has been suffering from depression because of the dreadful loneliness she faces every day. Despite having a grown-up family at home, she has been spending every day alone while they are at work and has found it a real struggle.

Her close companion has also suffered ill health recently and they are unable to have the conversations that used to help lift Anna's spirits.

"I heard about Words of Welcome and was desperate to call in, but I got to the door a few times and turned away because I was a bit nervous to go in," said Anna. "Now that I've made it inside, though, it's the best thing I've done and I look forward to coming every week. I hope my friend recovers enough to join me because I'm sure the wonderful atmosphere and the warm welcome from the volunteers will help her to get better."
