Volunteers at Alive Lunch Club in Gateshead are celebrating the arrival of a brand new cooker for their project.

The smart new cooker, with its five powerful burners, a hot plate and a double oven will make cooking even more of a pleasure for volunteers preparing meals at the lunch club.

Although they previously had limited cooking facilities, their basic four-ring cooker didn't cramp their culinary style and they were more than inventive when it came to finding ways to produce delicious menus.

Even if it meant bringing along additional pans, steamers and other kitchen gadgets, mealtimes were still special and enjoyed by every guest.

The new cooker was bought following a successful funding bid by Rev Meg Gilley from St Chad's Church who, together with Deacon, Thomas Rooke from Corpus Christi, worked with St Cuthberts Care to set up the lunch club.
