A warm welcome from Words of Welcome

Local volunteers have given the first of many warm welcomes to homeless and vulnerable people in Stockton with the opening of a brand new drop-in café.

Words of Welcome is held in St Cuthberts Church every Friday and offers food and refreshments, comfort, companionship and conversation in an inviting and friendly environment. Run entirely by volunteers, guests are offered a choice of meals from a tempting menu, which are then served to each guest at their table.

Volunteers Paul Dwyer and Maurice Ward are part of a dedicated volunteering team at the project and are thrilled to be able to give their time to help.

"We both feel we've lived in such a comfortable bubble. Words of Welcome is giving us the opportunity to help people who struggle every day. It's gret to be part of a long-term project and to work with othe parishioners from St Patrick's and St Cuthbert's," said Paul.

"I'm so pleased to be able to be part of the team helping out at Words of Welcome," added Maurice. "Knowing I am working to the direction of Pope Francis to care for the poor is an honour."
