Guests at Vianney's Lunch Club

There were two special celebrations rolled into one for guests and volunteers at Vianney's Lunch Club in Hartlepool recently.

As everyone gathered to enjoy their last lunch club before Christmas, volunteers had decorated the tables with crackers and festive goodies while volunteer chef, Tony Davison prepared a stunning meal with all the trimmings.

There were even more festivities on offer with dessert when a large celebration cake was served to mark the lunch club's first anniversary.

In its first year, dozens of local people have found comfort, friendship and great pleasure in attending the weekly lunch club, often finding it to be the only time they are able to socialise with others.

Pat Chapman is just one guest who hasn't looked back since she was persuaded to come along by her friend, Joan Clennett. "The kindness and compassion of the volunteers has changed my life," said Pat.
