Volubnteers at Claremont Lunch Club

Our Family Liaison Manager, June Spoors, recently paid a visit to Claremont Lunch Club in Blyth where guests were able to find out what it's like to live in residential care.

Many of the lunch club guests are elderly and can see a time in the future when they may need to move into a care home. Everyone agreed that having June visit was an ideal opportunity to hear first-hand what life is like – and for June to explode some myths, too!

Far from leading a sedentary lifestyle, June spoke about the busy lives many residents enjoy with regular trips, entertainment and activities.

"I think having June come to talk to everyone and to ask their own questions was a great idea," said Maureen, one of the lunch club volunteers. "We all found it very comforting to know that life can still be quite full and exciting in a care home."

June supports families and new residents who move into our two care homes and also has many years of experience as a manager of our St Catherine's Nursing and Residential Care Home. Our second home, Holy Cross Nursing and Residential Care Home, is located in Sunderland.
