A new, weekly lunch club in Bensham is breathing fresh life into local community spirit, providing people with an inviting place to meet and enjoy time together.

Aptly named Alive Lunch Club, it is run entirely by volunteers who prepare and serve lunch, organise quizzes and entertainment and help foster friendship among everyone who attends.

The lunch club opened its doors for guests for the first time recently and served a full Christmas lunch which was enjoyed alongside some good company and conversation.

"I often cook for large numbers at Holy Island and Alive Lunch Club has given me the opportunity to help those here in Bensham. It’s a wonderful act of neighbourly support and good fun too," said volunteer, Mary Rooke

Opening weekly from 9 January, Alive Lunch Club is gathering a solid group of regulars who are delighted to have somewhere to go to meet others.
