Sponsored swim boosts tea group funds

July 2012

Volunteers at a new PACE project, Tea on Thursdays, received a welcome contribution towards its running costs from a member of the local community.

Ushaw Moor resident, Paul Austin recently completed the Great North Swim and raised £123 in sponsorship, which he immediately donated to Tea on Thursdays.

Supported by St Cuthberts Care and run every week by a team of local volunteers, Tea on Thursdays only asks guests to pay a small charge to cover its costs; relying heavily on donations and gifts in kind.

Volunteer co-ordinator for Tea on Thursdays, Erica Wilson said, "This is a fantastic start to our project. The money will undoubtedly provide us with some security until we get on our feet, but it's also a wonderful example of how much the community is right behind what we are doing. I'd like to thank Paul for thinking about our project and working so hard to raise the money."

Tea on Thursdays is held every Thursday between 1pm and 3pm at Ushaw Moor Catholic Club on Durham Road.

If you or someone you know would like to go along to Tea on Thursdays or you would like more information about volunteering for the project, contact Erica on 0191 373 9962.
