Tea (Dance) on Thursdays

August 2012

Brand new PACE (Parish and Community Enablement) project, Tea on Thursdays, has held a tea dance for guests, just three weeks after opening its doors for the first time.

In the first few weeks, volunteers handed out questionnaires and chatted to guests to find out what they would like to do and a tea dance was one of the most popular suggestions. Held in Ushaw Moor Catholic Club, many guests were able to make use of the concert room to enjoy music and dancing, while those preferring a quieter environment, were able to stay in the lounge to play bingo and chat.

The tea dance not only adds variety to the activities offered at Tea on Thursdays, but helps to keep guests active and involved. More of the guests' suggestions will be sampled in the coming months.

The project was set up by St Cuthberts Care in partnership with the parish of St Joseph, to provide a friendly meeting place for lonely, isolated or elderly people to enjoy activities and share conversation, companionship and light refreshments.

Tea on Thursdays is run by volunteers and held every Thursday in Ushaw Moor Catholic Club between 1pm and 3pm. If you or someone you know would like to attend this project or you would like more information about volunteering for the project, contact Erica on 0191 373 9962.
